Why Modesty Matters (And Why It Should Matter to You!)

Does modesty matter?

I mean, seriously. When you actually break it down, in this day and age, is it really that important to dress modest?

First off, what the heck does this term, “modesty” even mean? And if modesty matters so much then why is it such a controversial thing?

Alright… where do I begin?

Truth be told, coming up with the right answers were pretty hard. Simply because folks wanna dress however which way they want.

To each their own. Because at the end of the day, it’s the heart condition that ultimately matters.

But, if we’re gonna be real here, I would go as far to say that if you’re truly living “about that Christian life” then you’d wanna cover your goods up naturally.

You know… because you’re in the image of God. Holy. Pure. Etc…?

Ok, ok, ok. Let me start at the beginning.

Modesty. Noun. Behavior, manner, or appearance intended to avoid impropriety or indecency. According to the Oxford dictionary.

And when it comes to Christians alike, dressing in such a way that does not draw attention or lustful desires is considered being “modest”.

So when people “cringe” because they hear that Christians are encouraged to cover up their curves and girls, it’s really because they feel like we are going all legalistic by restricting women to dress a certain way (against their will).

Sister, sister! Such is not the case!

Modesty matters because it is not only guarding your body against getting unwanted attention, distraction, or impressions, but it’s setting the tone for how you want people to address you.

Let’s face it. Sex is everywhere. And it is certainly at the very core of today’s fashion. And people dress in certain fashions to feel good about themselves.

There’s a certain level of confidence whenever we “feel sexy”. We look and feel desired which can affect our attitude and our actions.

But you have to ask yourself, “Are you really dressing like that to feel confident and desirable?” In other words, “Is that really the only way you can feel confident and desirable???”

If it is, then oh boy, we got a long way to go.
